Logic Puzzles – We completed 2 logic puzzles (Recycling & Butterfly Garden). If your child needs practice visit my web site and scroll down to Logic Puzzles: http://drewcharterelementarygifted.weebly.com/resources.html (see SOAR folder)
Chess – We discussed/practiced check mating/end game strategy, and I reviewed/explained the rules associated with castling. I reviewed the importance of quickly getting one’s pieces into play verses simply pushing pawns forward.
PBL – How can we design the best habitats for animals in local zoos or aquariums? We started our biome adventure reflecting in the desert. Next, students created make-believe yet realistic animals that can survive in the desert. For example, how does it survive, what does it eat, etc.?
After students presented their wildly creative animals, we began exploring the arctic tundra. Please ask your child to share his/her animal with you – I’m not sure if I should be impressed or shocked. :) Last, we watched a video and took notes throughout the video while discussing interesting facts.
Centers – Qwirkle, Pivit, Dizios, Legos, Cool Math Games, Marble Run Blocks, etc.
