MyPaymentsPlus.com - is ready to accept your payment(s) for the GA Aquarium field trip on April 18th. Create a free account using your child’s student ID. I will not be accepting cash/checks as a result of the cost and fact that I also coordinate the 3rd-5th grade end of the year trip.
Morning Share - We began our day by creating a 3 part cartoon of our Winter Break. Students chose 3 activities or interesting tidbits about their break from school. Students shared with the class. (communication skills).
Group Brain Booster - Sneaky Snack Sleuth. Student groups had to figure out the most creative yet realistic way to catch someone who has been sneaking a snack from a student’s snack bag. Students recommended everything from fingerprinting, setting traps, or installing a camera. (higher level thinking skills, creativity skills).
PBL - How can we, as biologists, recommend the best habitat for animals at our local zoo or aquarium? We watched an intro video depicting the biomes of the world. After designing our Biome book covers, students completed page 1 – What is a Biome?
Then we discussed becoming an effective researchers. We learned the importance of citing one’s source and sifting through the Internet to find accurate information. (I am not teaching APA/MLA citing; I am simply teaching the children about giving credit in addition to remembering where one has found information. Partners used the tablets to answer one research question, “What does a polar bear need to survive?” We shared our answers and sources with one another. (communication skills, advanced research skills).
