Logic Puzzles – See today’s logic puzzle in the SOAR folder. We completed “Magic Show” as a class and the students completed “Time Line” independently.
Chess - Students were divided into 2 groups. Those who know how to play chess and those who are learning. For those learning, we learned how to set up the board and move pieces. For students playing, we discussed piece values and how to determine a winner if we run out of time.
PBL – We took an Ancient Egyptian Pre-Test. Then we watched 3 short videos on sustainability and the role of an architect. The children learned the many different roles of architects and took notes in their journals. Last, student groups used Legos to create a design of their own (see pictures on Facebook). This open-ended activity gave the children an opportunity to explore and share their creativity with regard to design.
Analogies – Moon : Earth as Earth : ____________)
Creativity (Write a Question)– I gave students the answer, and they wrote a question. Students were encouraged to think differently than their classmates. Today’s answer – Water. Ask your child about his/her question. Some were quite interesting.
List-It (Scattergories) – Also encouraging students to think differently, we played “List-It.” In this fast-paced gamed, I give a category and students list as many things as possible in the category. Today’s categories: 1. Things that grow. 2. Things found at the beach – all answers must begin with the letter B.
Centers – Today I let the children choose among our centers: chess, Legos, Connect 4, Keva blocks, Qwirkle, Qwirkle Cube.
