Morning Share – We shared briefly and circled right into our Pi Celebration. Did you see what I did there?
Pi – I showed a couple of videos and taught Pi – as much as one can in 30 minutes. In sum, how many diameters can one fit around the circumference of a circle? We learned Pi is both irrational and infinite.
WORDS: radius, circumference, diameter, Pi, area, perimeter, ratio, infinite
Pie Design – Students created (on paper) wacky, crazy, weird, and unique pies. Ask to see your child’s pie creation.
Pi Bracelets – Using a color code, students designed pi bracelets (Thanks Ann, Jack's mom for the idea and materials. Thanks Jennifer, Waylon’s mom for assisting our amazing 2nd graders with successfully creating a Pi bracelet. (see Facebook for pictures)
Let’s Eat Pie – What’s pie day without eating pie. While we listened to the Pi song, we enjoyed various pies and juice. Thank you to the parents who supplied pies, forks, juice, and time. I’m terrible – I snuck a piece of chocolate pie while the kids were at enrichment classes. (see Facebook for pictures)
It’s Okay to be Different – I read the book by Todd Parr. Interested students shared how they feel/have felt different. The variety of differences shared among one class of 2nd graders amazes me. I shared a childhood story involving a medical condition – you may hear about it tonight.
