Mind Squeeze - This is a memory game where students study a variety of pictures and words for two minutes and then flip the paper to see haw many they can recall. (see SOAR folder) (spacial awareness and higher level thinking skills)
"Trivia" - As an avid fan of trivia, I gave the students a couple of pages of random trivia questions. This was not scored, because it's random trivia and simply fun in my opinion - several children seemed to enjoy the activity (see SOAR folder)
The Train & The Dark Room - Students used logic and deductive reasoning to determine the order of a set of 6 images and then 3 sections of 4 train parts. NOTE: As part of this lesson I had to take 10 minutes to explain 35mm film and cameras. I started with, "Back in the day we used cameras to take pictures - crazy huh?" (see SOAR folder) (higher level thinking skills, problem solving skills, reading comprehension)
Animal Expert - PBL "How can I, as a biologist, recommend the best habitats to our local Zoo or Aquarium?" - After spending the semester studying biomes, students chose an animal that he/she wants to investigate. After becoming an expert on the animal, students will design the perfect habitat for his/her animal. Students will determine the size of the enclosure, food provided, natural elements needed, temperature, etc. Next week, we will create a "blueprint" of our habitats. Ask your child about his/her animal. (advanced communication skills, creativity skills, advanced research skills).
Centers - Students played SET, Pivot, Keva Blocks, and Dizios
