Morning Share – Morning share time – fosters a community, builds confidence, and aids in communication (speaking/listening) skills).
Logic Puzzles – (Thursday Group) Today we completed a new type of logic puzzle (see SOAR folder). Most children were able to solve “Foxy Tricksters” independently; however, a few children are having a tough time. Ask your child how he/she solves these puzzles and if he/she needs additional practice.
Chess – Today we discussed the strength of the rook as well as pawns working together/protecting one another and creating a pawn chain. We played Rook vs. 5 pawns and the Pawn Game.
PBL – “How do I create an educational science game that parents and children will enjoy?” We started by discussing the Design/Engineering Process. Then we watched – https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxJWin195kU (Ask/Research, Imagine, Plan, Create, Improve, Share)
Next we overloaded Drew’s Internet capability. Which means we spent 30 minutes troubleshooting. I found our tech guy….blah blah blah. We resorted to playing “List It” and “20 Questions.”
Once the Internet problem was resolved, we researched 3rd grade science standards. Children found topics of interest and each child generated a list of three potential science game topics for his/her game idea.
If students finished early, they had time for free math centers at https://giftedandtalented.com/challenge-zone#
See you next week!
