Get Set- Students created groups of two using a variety of objects, letters, and/or numbers. Students offered a variety of correct and interesting answers. Ask you child how he/she divided the groups. (see SOAR folder) (Higher order thinking skills)
Quick Draw- I read a list if 18 directions which lead to students' drawing. I included the directions in today's packet. Try this activity with your child and see how two different people can follow the same directions yet yield completely different results. (advanced communication skills)
PBL - How can I promote my community (Atlanta)? Partners continued researching and creating their Atlanta websites. I took photos of all the partners for them to upload on their "About Us" page. Students are teaching themselves how to upload - slideshows, videos, gifs, etc. (Advanced Research Skills, Advanced Communication Skills, Creativity Skills)
Paper Towers (Wednesday Group - Tuesday Group will do this next week) - Students groups created paper towers with limited materials (see slideshow above). We will complete our stories, illustrate, and act out our plays next week). (creativity skills, advanced communication skills)
1. Build a paper tower with materials on table.
(Tower must stand without anyone touching it - and remain standing)
2. Measure your tower with a ruler. (inches).
3. Write a story using your tower as part of the setting.
Brainstorm story ideas with group.
Write story on notebook paper.
Illustrate story on chart paper. (Will complete next week).
Choose a narrator to read and actors to act out story for class. (Will complete next week).
When complete, we discussed the successes and failures of the groups. We determined that it is helpful for each group member to play a key role in the process.
