Analogies - square is to cube as circle is to _____ AND humid is to wet as arid is to _____ (higher level/critical thinking skills).
PBL/Ocean - Today we worked on researching various ocean related questions using the tablets. Then we read a passage about the ocean zones. We used a chart to answer questions. We’re working on becoming independent researchers, readers, and learners (higher level thinking & advanced research skills).
Creativity – We pretended to be a vegetable that we detest. Students wrote 5 persuasive sentences encouraging one to “like” the vegetable in question. (creativity & communication skills).
Math – Today I introduced the class to Boots’ Math. Boots is my cat who does silly, various, and sundry things like work at McDonald’s for free fries and take long walks to lose exercise from all of the fry eating. I incorporate math problems into the cat stories. It’s a fun and silly way to tackle math. Today we discovered regrouping when adding 2 digit numbers. (higher level thinking skills).
Critical Thinking – Today we worked on sorting “Limpets.” The children had to catch and sort “Limpets” into four categories. Students created the labels for the categories and were given the freedom to sort accordingly. We completed the same activity with a different group of limpets. Next week we will move back to logic puzzles (higher level thinking skills).
Game Centers: Dizios, Q-Bits, Keva blocks, Rush Hour, Qwirkle, iPads (problem solving, higher level thinking, logic reasoning).
NOTE: A couple of kids needed center time to complete today’s activities.
