Brain Booster - Can you solve it? It's easy. Click here.
Logic Puzzles - We solved 2 logic puzzles below. Some children had a difficult time separating the people in the clues. See "Black History" clue 1 and identify each person using the commas. We have 1. Wade, 2. Terrell, 3. Mary Bethune reporter, and 4. Jesse Owens reporter. There are 4 different people in this one clue. We know that Wade can't be Terrell. However, Wade also cant' be the person reporting on Mary Bethune or Jesse Owens, and Terrell isn't reporting on Jesse Owens or Mary Bethune (higher level thinking skills, logic reasoning, reading comprehension).
PBL "How does Design Impact Flight?" - We discussed thrust, weight, drag, and lift as they relate to flight. We watched a video explaining the necessary combination of the aforementioned vocabulary words. Next, students designed their "Flight" book covers. Finally, we ended with creating page 1 of our books - a vocabulary page with a diagram. (advanced communication skills, creativity skills).
Math - I gave the children an assortment of math activities to give them a math challenge. The packets included everything from elapsed time, multiple digit addition, calculating amounts, etc. Once completed, I reviewed the packets with the class and addressed any questions (see SOAR folder) (higher level thinking skills).
Analogies - Before centers, students worked on analogies (comparing two sets of images) (see SOAR folder) (Higher level thinking skills).
Centers - The fire drill ruined our centers; therefore, we played Heads Up 7 Up - I suspect that some of you played this as a child.
