PBL – Today we watched a short video and designed an Arrow Plane: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bDWYS707KDI. In the classroom, children flew their planes three times, and we noted the distance of our flights. Children charted their longest and shortest flight, and we ended the activity by comparing the flights to the Condor. We discussed how lift and weight contribute to the flight of the paper planes.
Like the previous week, we added our total number of flights. This was a bit more complex as the Arrow plane flies farther than the Condor plane which resulted in higher level addition. Last, we calculated the average distance by skip counting by threes into our total distance. Check your child’s SOAR folder to see how he/she was able to calculate the flights.
Chess – Today students played pawn chess. Pawns verses pawns and then we played 1 rook verses 5 pawns. We discussed how pawns work better in pairs and the strength of the rook.
Centers – Students choose among a variety of centers: iPads, LEgoes, Dizios, Connect 4, etc.
